June 20: Predictive genomics is thriving in the modern era of schooling. For providing appropriate training, experts today not just use psychometric analysis, but a blood or saliva sample from children can be used for genomic testing to discover the talents and inborn capabilities of children. We have now evidence (scientific studies) and scientifically validated methods (microarray) to assess the potential of children. There are a few reasons why genomic-based schooling will transform the lives of children in opting for the right career rather than being forced by parents and peers to adopt career goals based on traditional expectations.
Not all children are good at maths. Some groups are good at it, and others are not so good at it. Today we have predictive genomics that can predict whether the child will do good at mathematics even before he sets his journey to school life. We can predict which students need extra academic support; accordingly, they can be advised to choose alternatives to maths where they can score better.
Many unfortunate children fail to discover their talents during their school life. Those who discover it, flourish their talents and become super kids in co-curricular programs. Genomics testing is a super formula to help them identify genetic talents and use them in co-curricular activities in school competitions, inter-school competitions and national-level competitions. Not all children have a taste for music. But some are marvellous at it. Genomic testing can be done to identify children with a genetic potential for music. Identifying them genetically and training them under a music teacher will be a more appropriate option for such children.
There are endurance sports like swimming, running and cycling. Not everyone is good at endurance sports. Some may be good at power sports which involve jumping, kicking and punching that display the power, like karate, etc. Assigning children the right sports options based on their genetic profile helps encourage them in the sport suited to them. This selection method should be encouraged in sports and other international schools.
There are a wide array of personality traits and characteristics that are been studied in genomics. Recognizing personality traits help teachers and parents understand the nature of children and give an informed upbringing to children. Extroverts are good at serving as public relations officers and officials working in customer care services. Children genetically predisposed to extroverts can be guided for the mentioned jobs as they grow up. This helps them excel in their profession. Risk-taking behaviour is a personality trait necessary for doing a business. Genomics helps identify this trait.
Not all diets children take to suit their DNA. Nutrigenomics is an excellent genetic service that help children find the diet that suits their genome. It also helps in identifying food allergies like gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance. By genetically testing, we can avoid gluten or milk if any one of them turns positive in genetic testing.
Recapitulating, predictive genomics is the post-modern weapon that will transform schooling in this modern era. It’s time to replace traditional schooling and replace with genomic-based schooling for the betterment of schools….
